Face Milling – Single Part Process – Continuous Method:
- Workpiece and cutter (usually Spiron) rotate simultaneously, all teeth are produced at once in a single operation.
- Cutter head features several groups of cutters (not arranged in a circle).
- Parallel tooth height.
- Conical tooth top surface.
Single-Part Method:
- The workpiece remains stationary while the cutter (usually Arcon) rotates and cuts one tooth at a time by plunging into the material.
- After each tooth is cut, the cutter retracts, the workpiece indexes one tooth width, and the process is repeated until all teeth are produced.
- The cutter head features all cutters arranged on a circular path.
- Conical tooth height.
- Parallel tooth top surface.
The C28 is capable of both, gear wheel and pinion.
For the single-part method, the C28 must be "prepared" – i.e. equipped with a direct measuring system, a workpiece spindle holding brake, and a license file to enable the single-part process.
